SPS5.7 kiln temperature controllers

General

The SPS5.7 is a program controller designed for pottery, ceramics & glass firing. Its large illuminated 32 character display makes it easy to set up & use. Setting up is performed using an on-screen menu system and during firing full status information is displayed.

Programs

10 programs are provided. The programs are fully adjustable and each can contain from 1 to 9 ramp/dwell (soak) segments.  Controlled heating & cooling ramps are possible.  Program linking is provided where up to 9 programs can be linked (in any order) for long complex firings such as are used in glass making.
For convenience the controller is provided with pre-loaded programs.  These programs cover the majority of common firing requirements and have been choosen to give safe repeatable results over a wide range of sizes, sections & material types.  These programs can be altered or deleted as required.

CABLE & CONNECTOR

This is an adjustable safety device which cuts off heating power in the event of over-firing. A normally hidden FAULT legend illuminates.  See trip data for more details. tripon.jpg (7404 bytes) This can be user configured as either a damper control, set point alarm or event relay. This is a 2m or 3m cable fitted with a standard Harting HAN 7D style connector.

Mating pre-wired kiln connectors can also be supplied.

Segment Details

segment.gif (1784 bytes)

A program segment is a ramp followed by a dwell (soak).  Both controlled heating & controlled cooling ramps are possible.   The ramp rate can be set in the range 1 to 998°C/hour.  Setting a ramp rate of 999°C/hour causes full power heating or zero power cooling as required.  The target temperature can be set in the range 0 to 1310°C.  The dwell time spent at this temperature can be set in the range 00:00 to 99:59 hours:mins.  A program comprises 1 to 9 such segments.

Program Segments

A firing program comprises 1 to 9 segments.  Entering 0°C for a segment temperature terminates the program & natural cooling follows.   In the above example segments 1 to 4 are used & the temperature for segment 5 has been set to 0°C.

To skip a dwell (as in segment 1 above) a dwell time of 00:00 is entered.

To specify a cooling ramp (as in segment 3 above) the segment temperature entered is less than the previous segment's temperature.

Start Delay

The start of a firing can be delayed in the range 00:00 to 99:59 hours:mins.

Program Linking

Up to 9 programs can be linked (in any order) to form a continuous firing sequence.  The maximum firing complexity is thus 81 ramp/dwell segments. Typical linking display
